Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases
24 May 2012
Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Defra is inviting third sector organisations to apply to join its newly launched taskforce on climate change and the environment.
First announced as part of the department’s Third Sector Strategy in November 2008, it is now looking for a “diverse membership representing the full spectrum of third sector organisations”, in addition to inviting specialist contributors on an ad hoc basis as required.
The recruitment process is being coordinated by Green Alliance and NCVO, who will provide the secretariat for the taskforce.
The aim of the group is to identify specific actions the government and the third sector can take to tackle climate change, environmental problems and sustainable development.
“The taskforce will play a key role in helping us to reach communities through a medium that is easily accessible and that they trust,” said Defra minister Huw Irranca-Davies (pictured).
“The third sector has unique access to a vast range of people and is ideally situated to help Government educate people about climate change and environmental matters.”
