Local voluntary and community infrastructure organisations have voted to introduce a new set of performance standards, which will help them demonstrate the quality of their work to service users and funders. Following the vote at NACVS' annual conference, NACVS members can opt to be assessed against the standards.
Performance will be externally evaluated and organisations meeting the standard will be awarded a new kitemark to demonstrate the quality of their work. The scheme has already been piloted and will be rolled out across England from early 2006.
Kevin Curley, chief executive of NACVS, said: "This vote demonstrates that local infrastructure organisations are committed to providing high quality support for voluntary and community groups. They want to be recognised for their efforts but are also keen to continuously improve their performance. Service users and funders will have confidence that an organisation with the kitemark provides effective services which make a difference locally."
Conference delegates also voted to change the NACVS' name to the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA). Members agreed that the change would better reflect the aims of the network and the diversity of organisations within it. Work will be undertaken to prepare for the change, which will take effect from April 2006.
