Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases

Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Shaw Trust chief executive Sally Burton (pictured) has finalised the executive management structure that she hopes will see her vision for a more enterprising organisation through to fruition.
A new team of directors will head up four broad business functions in order to drive forward the charity’s strategy and performance.
Jerome Walls has become the Trust’s chief finance officer following a six-month stint as acting interim in the post. The role has been expanded to include estates and information services.
A new operation division has been created to combine the directorates formerly called work and independence and employment, and Stuart Knowles, the previous director of employment, has become executive director of operations.
However, two permanent directors are still being sought. Another new division called workforce and organisational development will take over all HR issues, including change management and organisational development, and Fiona Fisher has been hired as interim HR director to lead the strategic overview and help to find the new executive director.
Joining as interim director of new business is Colin Carmichael, assisting with hiring the permanent head who will oversee the design and development of new services at a national and local level.
A senior management team will look after marketing, retail and corporate resource, reporting to the executive team.
Burton said: “All the changes we are making are designed to make sure that we deliver excellence at the front line and importantly, that we can continue to grow and win business which allows us to help even more people.”
