The average salary for finance directors in the sector who participated in Acevo’s annual salary survey, is £49,397 – nearly £2,000 less than last year.
The survey, based on a sample of 295 finance directors during the spring and summer of 2009, found that the lowest salary was £17,500 while the highest was £97,840. In 2008, from 221 respondents, the lowest was £19,000 and the highest £97,500.
This year, three-fifths of FDs were male, slightly less than last year. In 2008, the average salary for women FDs was £6,600 less than their male counterparts; this year this difference was not measured in the survey. However, male CEOs earned, on average, £7,550 more than women.
The median salary for chief executives - 707 responded to the survey – was £57,264. In organisations with more than 1,000 employees, the median salary is £107,000, up 4 per cent since last year.
The senior manager position with the highest median salary is the fundraising director, at £46,350.
