Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases
24 May 2012
Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Family welfare charity Care for the Family has announced that it is to merge with Positive Parenting, an organisation which offers resources and training for parents.
The charities have cited their similar aims and ethos rather than financial problems as the reason for the move.
Mark Molden, chief executive of Care for the Family (pictured), will be chief executive of the newly merged organisation. He said:
“Positive Parenting brings with it a wealth of experience, quality resources and a training programme which will benefit parents across the UK.
“Our mutual desire is to see families strengthened and parents equipped in their vital role. This strategic merger will enable us both to see this develop over the years to come.
“In every sense it’s a merger, it has been approved by both sets of trustees, and while technically speaking the Positive Parenting charity will cease to exist and its funds will be transferred across to us, we will retain that brand name and all staff will transfer over.”
Care for the Charity has over 100 staff and a turnover of £3.5m, while Positive Parenting employs 14 with an income of £345,000.
The charities are currently in the process of appointing legal expertise for the merger.
