Gamp guru blasts hangers-on

Robin Bogg, chief executive of the British Umbrella Backing Body (BUBB), has hit out at the NCVO and Acevo for “jumping on the umbrella bandwagon”, after the two organisations both used brollies in promotional pictures.

NCVO started the trend when it sent a 90th anniversary brolly to Bogg himself, with the grateful recipient uploading to his blog a picture of himself with said gift.

The following month Acevo chief executive Stephen Bubb got in on the act by using his own blog to post an image of his team on a staff awayday in Richmond.

In the photo, each staff member is adorned with a colourful umbrella, despite suspicious evidence that it isn’t raining – indeed one man in the background can be seen casually flouting their example, doing not only without a brolly but without a hood or even a coat.

Not to be outdone, NCVO illustrated a press release on its new European Network of National Associations (ENNA) with a shot of chief executive Stuart Etherington alongside various ENNA representatives (pictured).

Two umbrellas are in evidence, despite that fact that they fail to fully cover the group and the fact that not only is it clearly not raining, but it appears to be sunny.

Umbrella abusers 'should be sent to prisons'

Bogg told Charity News Alert: "While all of this umbrella body umbrella activity is healthy, I can't help feeling that some people are jumping on the umbrella bandwagon.

“We here at BUBB will be concentrating on steering our own bandwagon and trying not to crash into all of the others careering around without proper governance or control.

“Those caught wielding an umbrella without due care or attention should be sent to prisons, run by BUBB."
