Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases
24 May 2012
Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Charity specialist Charles Mesquita has left investment management firm Rensburg Sheppards and is believed to have been lined up for a role at Newton.
Mesquita has departed his role as charities specialist and been placed on six months gardening leave.
Newton refused to confirm whether Mesquita would be joining the firm, but the switch has been described by one source as an “open secret”.
He started his career in the city in 1986 as a fund manager at Capel-Cure Myers, before moving to Flemings in 1992.
He joined Rensburg Sheppards in 1998 to develop investment services for charities and was instrumental in the launch of the Charities Property Fund, the first common investment fund available to charities wanting to invest in direct property.
Rensburg Sheppards has emphasised that Mesquita was working in a business development capacity and not in a hands-on fund management role.
The news coincides with today’s announcement that Rensburg Sheppards plc has made pre-tax profits of £30.5m in the preliminary results for the year ended 31 March 2009.
