There can be no doubting the power of blogging, as BBC political editor Robert Peston’s emergence into the wider public consciousness proves.
Indeed, his being called before the Treasury Select Committee for questioning about his role in the financial crisis can be seen as affirmation of his success.
Now, given that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it appears that the undisputed leader of the third sector blogosphere, Acevo chief Stephen Bubb, has had his own moment of vindication.
Bogg’s Blub appears to be a satirical homage detailing the thoughts and adventures of Robin Bogg, chief executive of the British Umbrella Backing Body (BUBB), a membership body for British umbrellas and parasols.
Bogg’s biog boasts: “During his tenure he has successfully raised the profile of umbrellas and the umbrella industry as well as strengthening its influence with government.”
In addition to the travails of fighting for the rights of umbrellas, the blog also takes a look at Bogg’s personal life, painting a vivid picture of the rural town of Blacbury, where he resides, and of trusty companionship with his dog Barkles.
Bogg is more cutting-edge than Bubb in one respect though; rather than using old-fashioned text messages, he communicates with his contacts, such as MP friend Gavin Lennon, on Twitter.
