Adventure Capital Fund injects board with more diversity

Finance | Vibeka Mair | 22 Jan 2009

The Adventure Capital Fund (ACF) has appointed four new trustees, bringing the total number of board members to 15.

The ACF runs Futurebuilders, the £150m government-backed fund that invests in third sector organisations that deliver public services. It also invests in community enterprises through a £12.5m programme.

The new board members include Dame Denise Platt, who has recently stepped down as chair of the Council of Social Care Inspection. She also sits on the board of the Audit Commission, the Committee on Standards in Public Life, and is chair of the National Aids Trust.

Dame Platt is joined by Saeeda Ahmed, director of Trescom Research and Consultancy; Jitinder Kohli, chief executive of the Better Regulation Executive, which is part of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform; and Ben Hughes, chief executive officer at Bassac, where he is actively involved in a range of third sector programmes and community policy work including ChangeUp and the Community Work Forum.

Both Hughes and Kohli have strong backgrounds in government. Kohli has worked across four government departments, including the Home Office, and Hughes sits on a number of government advisory groups and taskforces including the Department for the Community and Local Government’s Community Sector Task Force.

Ahmed comes with a strong track record in managing community-centred projects and initiatives. Her current company, Trescom Research and Consultancy, advises community development programmes and regeneration projects.

Board to reflect diversity of communities

ACF chair, Stephen Bubb (pictured), said: "We’ve appointed some excellent new trustees who have wide-ranging experience across a number of sectors, and who each share our passion for supporting community-led enterprise. It’s also been a priority to reflect the diversity of the communities in which we work in our board of trustees, and I’m confident that we’ve now achieved this."
