Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Leonard Cheshire Disability (pictured), Impetus Trust and Railway Children are among 30 charities shortlisted for the Charity Awards 2008.
The judges once again had an impressive number of quality applications from charities to consider, encompassing the full range of charitable activity in the UK, and the shortlist contains charities of all sizes.
The winners will be announced at the gala presentation dinner, hosted by comedian and broadcaster Marcus Brigstocke, at Battersea Evolution on 19 June 2008.
In addition to the ten category winners, there will be an effectiveness award, and one charity will go on to win the overall award for excellence in charity management, presented by overall sponsor the Charities Aid Foundation. There will also be award made to an individual for outstanding achievement in the sector.
