Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases
24 May 2012
Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Deliveries of the latest version of Sage Line 50, the most widely used accounting software package in the charity sector, have been suspended following a stream of complaints to the company's support services.
The majority of issues relate to the new Report Designer, which was introduced in response to longstanding dissatisfaction over Line 50's reporting capabilities.
Greg Ford, managing director of Sage's Accountants Division, confirmed that the company will attempt to iron out the problems before shipping resumes. 'What we've done is make a conscious decision to concentrate on customers who have been impacted to date,' he added. 'We have contacted those customers and will respond to their situation to get them satisfied with the product. Then we will recommence issues in a staged manner. The principle is to resolve existing customers' issues and then we will make sure everyone who has placed orders will receive a fully functional product, without patches. We don't want to get more support calls from customers who have not resolved their problems.'
A spokesperson for Sage has stated that distribution should resume in the next few weeks.
