Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases
24 May 2012
Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
The Learning and Skills Council has been forced to reopen an online grant application system, following reports by the BBC that 150 charities were unable to apply due to technical problems. The organisations affected claimed the system kept crashing and losing their applications. The company which designed the system said any problems lay with the users, but the LSC promised to provide more back up and support. Rob Wye, director of strategy at LSC, said: "I absolutely apologise to anyone who's had a problem with the system. We're doing everything we can to help them. We re-opened the tendering process and got extra help and support. But as with any tendering process there is no guarantee of success."
