Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases

Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
There will be a further £90m investment over the next two years in Futurebuilders, the Home Office as stated. Plans for two schemes aimed at helping the third sector achieve its full potential have also been announced. Compact Plus is a new opt-in scheme to shorten and simplify the commitments between Government and third sector organisations working together, while Capacity Builders is a new sector-led development agency to manage government's investment programme for the sector.
Richard Gutch, chief executive of Futurebuilders, called the new investment a great vote of confidence in the voluntary and community sector. Charities minister Fiona Mactaggart MP said: "It demonstrates the faith this Government places in the skills, passion and innovation such organisations bring to solving society's challenges, and our commitment to building secure and stable funding so that they can continue to use their talents."
Stephen Bubb, chief executive of acevo, was particularly pleased that the Home Office accepted the recommendations of its commission of inquiry on surer funding. "The sector cannot deliver under sudden-death, short term, bureaucratic contracts. Compact Plus proposals offer a new route towards a surer funding framework. We intend to use it."
