Lancaster University is to create a new chair in Hospice Studies having been awarded funding by Help the Hospices for new research looking at the role of hospices in the community. It is hoped the results will create the opportunity for increased innovation in hospice care.
David Praill, chief executive of Help the Hospices, said hospices were mostly small local charities that have focused efforts on raising funds for patient care. "There has been a lack of investment and co-ordination in research and a need for data. The person who takes on this post will play a major role in plugging this gap and making a real difference in an exciting and fast-moving sector."
