OSCR accounts reveal trustee generosity

Two members of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator board refused remuneration for their work, and two more donated their funds to the charities they work for, the regulator's accounts for 2011/12 reveal.

Deputy chair Lindsay Montgomery and trustee David Harris passed up the opportunity to be paid a daily rate for their services. Meanwhile Graham Forbes, who became chairman in March 2011, and trustee Annie Gunner opted to donate their remuneration to St Mary's Cathedral and CCPS Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland, respectively.

The board remuneration costs totalled a maximum of £35,000 in 2011/12, down from a maximum of £45,000 in 2010/11. Forbes donated a figure between £5,000 - £10,000 while Gunner donated a figure of £0 - £5,000.

The remaining four trustees accepted a sum of £0 - £5,000 for their contributed hours, which are set at a day rate of £200 per day, typically for 1.5 days a month.

Staff costs

Meanwhile staff costs at the regulator remained stable, increasing by just £1,000 from the previous year to £1.953m. Administration costs decreased by £29,000 to £763,000.

In total spending for the year was £3.1m. £134,000 of this was for capital costs relating to the overhaul of its website to accommodate online filing, a spokesman advised. The OSCR online filing system launched in June this year and changes are ongoing, with the regulator advising it will be integrating social media and "hopes to start 'tweeting' in the autumn".
