Fundraisers frustrated by JustGiving outage over the weekend

04 Jun 2019 News

Some JustGiving users struggled to access donation pages as the site experienced technical problems over the weekend.

The platform is now functioning normally and JustGiving is investigating the reasons for the outage.

Civil Society News approached JustGiving for details and a spokesperson said: “We regret that some of our users experienced intermittent issues in accessing our site over the weekend.

"We are continuing to monitor this closely.”

The problems started on Saturday 1 June and @JustGiving tweeted around 3.30am: “Please be aware our site is currently experiencing some issues but our team are working very hard to get this fixed as soon as possible.”

Charnwood BRAS, which provides reassurance and support for breastfeeding, was fundraising for a park run on the Sunday and complained that the site had failed at a critical time, it said: “Our event is tomorrow and nobody can get on to donate.”

Outage continues beyond 24 hours

At around 8am, JustGiving responded to complaints: “More and more of you should gradually start to be able to access the website again over the next few hours,” and promised further updates.

On Sunday 2 June around 1.30am the issues had still not been fixed, although JustGiving tweeted: “UPDATE: Many of you will now be able to access the website as usual.

“Our team have been working through the night to fix the ongoing issues preventing people from being able to donate to fundraising pages.”

However, an hour later, @JustGiving tweeted: “We wish we had better news, but sadly the website is not working for some of you right now.”

The team continued to respond individually to concerns and complaints from Twitter followers.

Yesterday morning the platform was still “experiencing intermittent issues”.
