November's Will Aid campaign has smashed its fundraising record set in 2010 by over £500,000 to raise £2.1m for its nine supported charities.
Will Aid was formed in 1988 and to date has raised over £11m for UK and international charities and encouraged over 175,000 people to have wills. It calls upon solicitors to work on a pro bono basis to draw up wills during the month.
This November's Will Aid campaign saw 25,000 people in the UK make a will with a solicitor and donate funds to Will Aid in place of paying solicitor's fees, raising £2.1m. The campaign raised over 30 per cent more than the previous year's record of £1.5m showing growing impetus for the charity.
Will Aid supports ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sciaf, Sightsavers and Trocaire.
Chris Millward, head of legacies at Save the Children and chair of Will Aid, said: "Last November’s campaign was a fantastic success and we are delighted that so many people chose to have their will written by a professional solicitor and that such a huge sum of money was raised through their kind donations to the Will Aid charities.
"This money really does change lives for the better. I would like to thank all the solicitors and will-makers in this area who took part. It is a great achievement to have raised this enormous sum in just a few weeks. The participating charities are really grateful for the life-changing work this makes possible."
The charity is calling for more solicitors to offer their services for Will Aid 2012.
