Chief executives

The Royal Society of Medicine has appointed Michele Acton as its new chief executive. She will start in May, when she leaves her role as chief executive for Fight for Sight.

Speaking about her appointment she said: “The society has a long and distinguished history and ambitious plans to develop further its high-quality educational and learning programmes that meet the changing needs of healthcare professionals. It is a privilege to be appointed as the new chief executive and I am very much looking forward to taking up the role and working with the team to deliver those plans.”

Lex Jones has been named the interim chief executive of Registry Trust. She is to take over from Nick Rossiter, who retired due to health concerns.

Leap Confronting Concflict has promoted Ben Kernighan to chief executive. He had been deputy chief executive at Leap Confronting Conflict for over three years and before held roles at NCVO and the National Union of Students (NUS).

Mark Lever is to become the new chief executive of Helpforce, a charity which supplies volunteers to the NHS, from May. He is currently the chief executive of the National Autistic Society, which he joined in 2008.

The Canada-UK Foundation has created the position of chief executive for the first time. Wanda Hamilton will take on this role. She has over 25 years of experience in the charity sector in both Canada and the UK.

Hertfordshire mental health charity, Youth Talk, has appointed David Barker as its new chief executive. Barker will take up the post at the end of March and will replace Trevor Fromant, who led the charity for four years. Barker is also a third sector consultant, and previously worked in management and leadership positions in charities such as the British Heart Foundation.


Finance and operations

Ben Twomey is to become the head of policy and research at children’s rights charity, National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS). Prior to his work in the charity he was a policy officer for the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.

Social Enterprise UK has hired Jennifer Exon as director of business and enterprise. Prior to this she worked for Business in the Community.

Jenni Anderson has been appointed as the development director for the Invictus Games Foundation. Prior to this, she was the fundraising director for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.


Non executive

Jordan Banjo, Diversity dancer and presenter of The Greatest Dancer has been named as ambassador for children’s charity, Together for Short Lives.
