Month-long strike at homelessness charity suspended

21 Apr 2023 News

A planned four-week strike potentially involving more than 500 workers at St Mungo’s has been suspended after the homelessness charity made a revised offer to staff.

Staff at the charity had voted in favour of strike action beginning next week over a pay dispute, after Unite the Union balloted members.

Unite members were due to take part in a four-week strike starting on Monday 24 April 2023 and ending on 21 May 2023.

St Mungo’s previously said 382 staff members voted yes to strike action, out of the 578 members who were balloted.

But the union has now said that the strike has been suspended after the charity made a revised offer to staff.

A St Mungo’s spokesperson said: “The planned strike action due to start on Monday 24 April 2023 has been suspended while a new offer is considered by Unite the Union’s members.

“We are keen to resolve the dispute, avoid strike action which would impact our clients, and move forward collaboratively to continue supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.”
