Macmillan’s flagship fundraising event, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, has smashed its previous record growth to raise £20m last year.
The charity today announced the event passed the £20m-mark, a significant improvement on the £15m raised in 2012, which was itself a 50 per cent increase on fundraising in the previous year.
The £20m raised in 2013 represents a doubling of the Coffee Morning fundraising total within two years; in 2011 the event raised £10m Macmillan had expected growth to slow on the event, budgeting for the 2013 Coffee Morning to raise £16.2m.
Coffee Morning last year attracted a third more event hosts than in 2012, with 154,000 hosting coffee mornings around the country. Macmillan attributed this increase, in part, to its corporate partnership with Silver Spoon, Kenco and M&S.
Lynda Thomas, director of fundraising at Macmillan, said that the charity was thrilled with the “remarkable” results.
Coffee Morning represents a significant proportion of Macmillan's total voluntary income, which in 2012 stood at £152m. Last year, on the back of its success, Macmillan launched a companion event, targeting a younger female demographic.
