As trustees, we must support and encourage our CE but we must also constructively challenge. And, we must not be afraid to raise difficult issues. Yet research carried out by Cranfield School of Management found that 70 per cent of board members did not know how to raise difficult issues. As a result, on average board members knew their organisation would fail 50 months before it happened.
