Charities and legacy campaigners will come together this September in the first global legacy promotion day.

The awareness-raising day hopes to emphasise the value of legacies to charities’ work and encourage more people to consider leaving a gift in their will in whatever country they reside. Both charity staff and the general public will be targeted by this message.

The International Legacy Giving Day, which is due to be held on 13 September, will bring together both the UK’s Remember A Charity campaign with others from Ireland, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada.

With a statement from Remember A Charity referring to the upcoming event as the work of a “new international alliance”, Rob Cope, director of the organisation, said: “This is the first time that hundreds of charities from across the world are coming together to raise awareness of this vital form of giving.”

The UK is a world-leading force in the field of legacy promotion, as is revealed by the fact that Australia’s legacy promotion group ‘Include a Charity’ plans to run Remember A Charity’s television adverts from the end of this month.

Remember A Charity Week will run from 12 – 18 September and will this year include an in-store campaign in 3,000 charity shops around the country – double the amount participating in last year’s Week.
