Chartered Institute of Fundraising advertises for a permanent CEO

17 May 2021 News

The Chartered Institute of Fundraising (CIoF) is looking for a new permanent chief executive to “provide inspirational, modern leadership”.

CIoF has advertised the post with Green Park, a recruitment agency, and applicants are being asked to explain how they would “deliver our diversity agenda and bring systematic cultural change across the sector”.

Applicants are also asked to explain what they “identify as being the commercial opportunities” and how they would champion the sector.

Dhivya O’Connor joined the CIoF as interim chief executive last week and is expected to be in place for around six months.

Peter Lewis resigned earlier this year after ten years at the CIoF and will leave the umbrella body on 4 June.

New boss will earn £94,000

The role has been advertised with a salary of £94,000, with an optional pension scheme after completing three months.

CIoF is looking for someone with a “successful track record as either a chief executive or senior director” and experience of “leading and embedding inclusive practices within an organisation”.

It says experience of the charity and fundraising sector is “desirable”.

The job purpose is summarised as: “The chief executive will provide inspirational, modern leadership to the Chartered Institute, shaping strategic plans for growth and development and ensuring these are turned into operational reality and maximum impact across the four nations [and] to lead a modern organisation with a wide reach in a digital age.”

'Pivotal point' for the CIoF

Earlier this year the CIoF was criticised about its handling of sexual harassment allegations. It has apologised and at the end of March it set out changes it expects to make to its complaints and disciplinary procedures over the coming months.

Claire Rowney, chair of the CIoF, said in the welcome pack for candidates: “You will need to be fanatical about fundraising and the role the Chartered Institute plays in leading, representing and championing the fundraising profession and community. You’ll also need to be serious about our diversity agenda and our commitment to making the organisation and the sector a fairer and safer place for all.

“You would be joining at a pivotal and defining point for us as an organisation. We are looking for someone who can lead the development and delivery of our new five-year strategy, working with a talented and experienced staff team and an informed and committed board of trustees.”

The deadline to apply is 6 June and interviews will take place later that month.
