Macmillan Cancer Support raised more than £10m in 2011 from its Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning events - £2m more than in 2010 and the record raised so far.

The fundraising events took place on 30 September 2011 with 51,000 signing up to take part – an increase of 16 per cent on the previous year.

The money raised goes towards funding nurses and therapists and supporting line workers to help people living with cancer.

The Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan's fundraising main event and has been going since 1991. Individual volunteers host a coffee morning for friends or colleagues and collect donations.

Corporate partners which supported the event last year include Marks and Spencer, Kenco and Silverspoon.

This year’s event will take place 28 September 2012 and is already open for participants to sign up online.
