Liverpool based film company First Take is currently working a feature film titled, Big Society – The Musical.
Currently in pre-production, the musical is enlisting the talents of people from community arts groups in the city. A group of local writers, including RTS award winner Esther Wilson, has almost finished the screenplay and the organisation is talking to local buskers about writing the score.
The plot follows Linda, who loses her job working with young offenders when the centre she worked in closed, continues to try to help a 13-year-old boy she had been working with, risking her relationship, home and reputation.
Director Lynne Harwood said: “It is important to do something to kick back against the cuts and here at First Take we make films, so that was the obvious thing to do.”
Linda is being played by Paula Simms and casting for other parts will take place shortly with filming due to start next month.
One scene has already been filmed and is available to watch on the organisation's Facebook page.
Earlier this year Liverpool withdrew from the government’s Big Society ‘vanguard areas’ programme claiming that spending cuts made it impossible to continue.
