Ariana Grande confirms Manchester benefit concert for those affected by attack

Singer Ariana Grande has announced that she will return to Manchester to play a benefit concert for those affected following the attack.

Grande made the announcement yesterday, saying she would return to the city to play The One Love Manchester show on 4 June, which will raise money for those affected by the blast at her concert on 22 May which left 22 people dead and 59 injured.

In a statement on the Ticketmaster website, Grandaritour, Inc – Grande’s touring company – said it would donate: “The net proceeds from the concert to the British Red Cross Society, a registered charity, for its Manchester Emergency Fund’ supporting the victims of the Manchester Bombing.”

The statement from the organisers said they expected the net proceeds of the concert to raise at least £2m.

Tickets for the show, which will be held on Sunday 4 June at the Emirates Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, go on sale tomorrow. Grande is also offering free tickets to all those who attended her Manchester Arena show on 22 May.

Grande will be joined at the concert by international and local acts including Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Take That, Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams.

The concert will also be broadcast live nationally on BBC One, BBC radio and on all Capital Radio networks.

Grande, who cancelled two planned shows at London’s O2 Arena following the attack, said in a statement: “I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honour and raise money for the victims and their families.”

We Love Manchester Emergency Fund to become registered charity

A spokesman for the Charity Commission confirmed that the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund is set to become a registered charity “in the next couple of days”.

The spokesman said this would provide further public assurance that public donations are held safely by a registered charity and accounted for on the register of charities”.

He said the Charity Commission was “providing additional help to ensure the charity can be entered on the register as soon as possible”.

The We Love Manchester Emergency Fund has now raised over £5m through the combined efforts of a number of appeals, including those started on JustGiving by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City Council and the British Red Cross.
