When the government announced back in December 2012 that it would hold a consultation on the minimum amount of proceeds a society lottery has to give to good causes, alarm bells rang across the charity lotteries sector. Representative bodies and individual charities were united in opposing any increase on the current 20 per cent, saying it would reduce the funds going to charities and force some charity lotteries to close.
