The life of a director of fundraising can be challenging as well as rewarding. It can also vary from charity to charity. In the attempt  to monitor developments within the role, ranging from salary and gender trends to role responsibilities, along with the professional development opportunities, PF ran a survey. The findings made interesting reading, says Becky Slack.

Readers may well expect the results of this survey to focus on the battle of the sexes. After all, we often hear reports about a gap between male and female salaries, along with complaints that women simply aren’t being appointed as directors of fundraising, despite middle and junior ranks being dominated by the fairer sex. PF’s 50 Most Influential People in Fundraising was the latest example of this with the top ten comprised solely of middle-aged white men.
