Fundraisers are operating in an increasingly complex and fastpaced environment. Demand for charitable services is rising; supporters have more causes competing for their attention; and charities need to build reliable income streams that can withstand economic uncertainty.

Within the armed forces sector, those challenges are particularly acute. Data from the Office for National Statistics and the Office for Veterans’ Affairs shows that almost a quarter of veterans (22.8%) have sought support from a veterans’ or service charity. Meanwhile, wider research has found that more than half of army veterans in England report experiencing physical or mental health problems after leaving service.
