The performance of Camila Batmanghelidjh and Alan Yentob in front of a committee of MPs yesterday raised more questions than it answered about the activities of Kids Company and the implications for the wider sector. Kirsty Weakley looks at what happened.

Yesterday the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee questioned Camila Batmanghelidgjh, founder and chief executive, and Alan Yentob, chair, of failed charity Kids Company, for a marathon three hours. Although chairman Bernard Jenkin started by saying the intention wasn’t for the session to turn into a “show trial” it was hard to avoid the impression that MPs were eager to get their claws into the mess.

So was it just an opportunity for everyone to gawp as they confirmed some of the more ludicrous allegations, such as paying people’s mortgages, and events leading up to its collapse? Or did it actually reveal anything about what happened inside Kids Company or offer insights for other charities, the Charity Commission or government departments?
