How charities handled the heatwave in 2018

It's been a bit hot. Here's how charities responded.

You may have noticed that it has been somewhat warm over the last few days as most of the UK was gripped by a heatwave. While for many the hot weather was either a welcome break from the usual July drizzle and for others a mild incovenience, for charities supporting vulnerable people and animals it was important to get their message about how to cope in hot weather out there.

Here are some of the best bits of charity content that were shared on Twitter:

Dog's Trust offered tips to keep pets stimulated, without them overheating.

Scope raised awareness of the protective headwear available in its shops.

MS Society was just one of the health charities offering tips on staying cool.

London Zoo shared footage of how it was helping its animals to keep cool - probably not ideal to try this at home though (unless you have micropigs, in which case please send us pics of them enjoying a mud bath) .

Age UK used an infographic to share tips for helping other people during the heatwave.

RNIB reminded people that eyes need protecting as well as skin with this adorable and attention-grabbing picture.

Cats Protection were obviously prepared with this video of tips for keeping cats cool. Their Twitter feed includes some great examples of places cats are hanging out to stay cool.

And with the weather set to break it's not too early to get out some advice on dealing with thunder storms, and Dogs Trust has done just that.
