National Lottery Heritage Fund opens Digital Confidence Fund

13 Feb 2020 News

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has launched a new initiative to support heritage organisations across the UK to develop their digital skills.

The Fund says that 2,500 people are expected to benefit from the free training to develop their digital skills. It will invest nearly £500,000 in the provision of advice and support on how to integrate digital tools into heritage work more effectively.

Digital Skills for Heritage is designed to promote digital skills and leadership across the heritage sector, and will also aim to help organisations increase their digital confidence and use technology more creatively.

Head of digital policy Josie Fraser said that the fund “aims to drive up digital capabilities across the heritage sector and give organisations, of all shapes and sizes, an opportunity to learn how to thrive in an increasingly digital world”.

She added: “Heritage organisations are diverse, with widely varying needs – locations, sizes and levels of digital maturity – and our activities aim to reflect that. So, not only are we inviting organisations to learn more about the low cost and impactful ways to bring heritage to more people, we’re also investing in senior leaders across the sector to use digital methods to help deliver their organisational missions.”

The new initiative will create a package of communications, sharing knowledge, best practice, tips, tools and other resources with those who might not benefit directly from the first-hand training delivered via the funded opportunities.

It will also support peer-based training to 30 senior heritage executives to become digital leaders, and provide one-to-one mentoring for organisations which have been identified by the Fund as those who will greatly benefit from increasing their digital skills and confidence.
