Following a campaign to ban topless photos in the Sun, the newspaper has taken the step of highlighting its Page 3 models’ charity work.

A petition by Lucy Holmes entitled ‘Dominic Mohan: Take The Bare Boobs Out Of The Sun’ has attracted 52,485 supporters to date.

And today sees the publication on the Sun’s website of an article entitled ‘Unseen side of Page 3 girls’, which reports on Page 3 models such as Rhian Sugden, Amii Grove and Peta Todd’s work with the organisations Male Cancer Awareness Campaign, PETA and Help for Heroes respectively.

Viewing women ‘as sex objects’

On her page ‘nomorepage3’ on the e-campaigning site Change.org., writer and actress Holmes addresses Sun editor Mohan with: “Dominic, stop showing topless pictures of young women in Britain’s most widely read newspaper, stop conditioning your readers to view women as sex objects. Enough is enough. Thank you.”

Last month she encouraged supporters to “put your money where your mouth is” to persuade the Sun’s major advertisers to drop their ads until the paper drops Page 3 models.

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Argos and DfS are the big-name brands that Holmes advised advocates of the campaign to boycott for the week of 29 October to 4 November.

“As consumers we have the power to hurt their bottom line and show them how silently endorsing Page 3 through their advertising is damaging to their reputation,” Holmes said.

The campaign has also been circulating on Twitter, where @NoMorePage3 has over 10,500 followers.
