A group of seven charities in London will be left without a home when the building they have been working in is developed for commercial purposes.

The charities, which have been in York House on Pentonville Road in King’s Cross since 2012, where they been living rent free, have until the end of the month to find alternative accommodation.

The charities include:

  • Islington Foodbank, which provides emergency food and support for local people in crisis;
  • KX Brunch, a free weekly café which offers food and friendship for 40-590 rough sleepers;
  • Tent, a creative work space for start-ups;
  • Choices Baby Boutique, which offers free baby and children’s clothing, as well as support, to mums in need;
  • Tuesday Night Drop-In, a drop in centre for women who have been working in the sex industry to meet and have a meal together
  • Only Connect, a creative arts and theatre company working with ex-offenders and young people at risk.

Beth Murray, public engagement director at Only Connect, said: “We've had three fantastic years at York House, and always understood that it would come to an end. Although we're still looking for a permanent home in Kings Cross, we're excited for our next stage."

A spokesperson for the charities said: “York House has touched the lives of everyone who has walked through its doors over the past three years.

“However it is the energy and enthusiasm of those involved in these projects that has made this possible, and it is their stories, along with those of the people they support in so many ways, that are so inspiring and should not be allowed to end here.”
