Organisers of the London Marathon will be pressed to address some of the problems faced by small charities in accessing and profiting from event at a meeting they have agreed to hold with the Foundation for Social Improvement.

Pauline Broomhead, chief executive of the FSI, said: “The Marathon is an amazing fundraising opportunity, but I would like to ensure that small charities approach it in a strategic way, because some small charities do struggle to recoup the investment they make in the London Marathon.”

The FSI will propose having a dedicated space on the Marathon route where small charities can congregate to support their runners, creating an overarching brand for small charities under which individual charities can promote their brands, and releasing the FSI’s own runner support material (such as training advice, run suggestions) as model documents for other small charities to use with their own branding.

“I just want for small charities to participate in the London Marathon, to be seen, to support their runners and to recoup their investment,” she said.

No date for the meeting is yet confirmed.
