The Disasters Emergency Committee has now raised £23m for the relief effort in typhoon-devastated Philippines.
The DEC launched the appeal officially on Tuesday morning, with the first broadcast adverts going live in the evening. Since then some £23m has been raised, £13m of which came within the first day.
DEC member agencies have been furiously attending to the disaster, and tracking their efforts on social media with pictures and information flooding Twitter and Facebook.
Saleh Saeed, DEC chief executive, described the public reaction to the appeal as remarkable.
"We are so grateful for the huge amount of donations which are vital to fund the work done by our emergency teams,” he said.
“This has already become one of our most generously supported appeals but there is still a huge humanitarian need for help. Our priority is to provide food, water and shelter to those affected. Money raised will go directly to delivering these essentials and it’s important we continue to provide this support.”
Donations can be made via http://www.dec.org.uk, telephone or giving £5 by texting SUPPORT to 70000.
