David Butler is moving into the new role of executive president at PTA-UK

PTA-UK, the umbrella body for 13,750 parent-teacher associations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, is looking for a new executive director as its CEO David Butler prepares to move across to the new role of part-time executive president.

The salary of the new executive director is being advertised at around £60,000, a significant drop from Butler’s current salary band of £70,000-£80,000.

Butler told civilsociety.co.uk that the new roles are very different to each other and as the executive president role is part-time it will have a "significantly smaller salary" than the executive director.

As well as overseeing the organisation’s charitable activities, the new director will be charged with implementing the charity’s commercial strategy including responsibility for its trading arm NCPTA Enterprises Ltd.

According to the job ad, a five-year business plan has been developed for 2013 to 2017 which includes a review of the market, a proposed governance structure, proposed marketing activity, resources required and financial projections.

One of the key recommendations from the business plan is that a full-time director should be appointed to the board of NCPTA Enterprises.

There has since been an organisation review of staff and the charity decided that Butler should move into the new role of executive president to act as an ambassador for the charity and that the board should recruit an executive director to lead both the charity and the trading arm.

The new director will be charged with developing new partnerships to expand the benefits offered to members, rebranding the organisation and exploiting social media to raise awareness of this.

The charity's chair of trustees Tim Partington told civilsociety.co.uk that the executive president would "act as an ambassador for PTA-UK and take the lead in ensuring the organisation achieves its aims of raising the charity’s profile, promoting its services to as wide an audience as possible and helping advance education through parent-school partnerships".

Butler will take up this role in July 2013 after 14 years as CEO.

Applications for the executive director post closed on Friday and interviews with the PTA-UK board will take place the week commencing 3 June.
