The average pay for interim managers in the charity sector increased by 12 per cent between June and December 2011, compared to the average across all sectors which was a rise of 2 per cent.
According to the latest survey of the interim management market by Russam GMS, daily rates rose from £424 to £477 for interim managers in the charity sector. This is still lower than the overall average pay for interims across all sectors, which is now £621 per day.
In the public sector, pay for interims declined 9 per cent for those working for central government and by 7 per cent for those in local government.
Gender disparity
Across all sectors women are paid 13.5 per cent less than their male counterparts but Russam attributes this to the fact that more women work in the charity or public sectors which are less well paid.
But even within the charity sector women are paid on average slightly less than men, with the average daily rate for women being £472, which is £5 or 1 per cent less than the average for both men and women.*
Charles Russam, chairman of Russam GMS said: “We are disappointed to see a big pay gap between men and women – although it does appear to be linked to the sectors in which they work. We want to attract a greater number of women into the industry and this is the main goal of our women’s business network, Interim Women.”
Overall activity in the interim manager market fell by 6 per cent during the period.
