Civilsociety.co.uk highlights some noteworthy campaigns and partnerships from the last month including and exhibition for Norwood, ChildLine's partnership with UK mail and Age UK's Spread the Warmth campaign.
- Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Children’s Charity is the official charity partner of this year’s National Baking Week. Money raised from bake sales during the 15-21 October will go to GOSHCC, and limited edition baking kits are available from the GOSHCC website for a donation. No fundraising target has been set.
- A collection by artists with learning disabilities raised £22,000 for charity Norwood at an exhibition in London’s Halcyon Gallery last month. The funds raised at ‘The Art Show’ came via artwork, ticket sales and from sponsorship and will be used to develop one of Norwood’s social enterprise initiatives to enable people it supports to learn new skills.
- ChildLine has entered a year-long partnership with UK Mail. The logistics company is pledging to raise £100,000 through means such as payroll giving, raffles and donation tins, to support the delivery of the ChildLine Schools Service. UK Mail will also be encouraging its employees to volunteer for the service, which sees volunteers visiting primary school children to teach them about abuse.
- Age UK has secured television journalist and presenter Selina Scott as a patron to raise awareness for its North Yorkshire ‘Spread the Warmth’ campaign. Ten per cent of sales of her goat hair socks, designed to keep the elderly warm during the winter, will go to the charity. As this is a pilot scheme, Age UK has not set a fundraising target.
- Simplyhealth is aiming to raise £30,000 for Heart Research UK after partnering with the charity for the part of its existing health issues campaign which will publicise the link between heart disease and dental health. For each person who ‘likes’ the Simplyhealth Facebook page, it will donate £1 to Heart Research UK. Both hope the partnership will increase brand awareness.
- Arts Council England has opened the application process for the first round of funding from a £20m fund for small capital grants. Organisations will be able to apply for grants of between £100,000 and £499,999 for projects that will make them more sustainable and resilient. £12m is available for the first round and the deadline for applications is 30 October 2012.
- World Jewish Relief has set a target of £100,000 for its annual Rosh Hashanah appeal, this year raising money for the Jewish community in the former Soviet Union. The charity is asking donors to support it by buying a gift or a card via its virtual gift site Wjrapped Up, where items for purchase include things such as £5 to ship humanitarian aid across the region.
- Four amputees and two able-bodied servicemen are on the way to achieving their target of raising £1m for a variety of veterans charities by completing a 3,000- mile row. SSAFA Forces, Help For Heroes and ABF The Soldiers Charity will split the money from the effort. Further funds will be raised by ticket sales to the River & Rowing Museum, which will host the Row2Recovery exhibition, and from sales of the book The Row To Recovery.
- The first ever female infantry physical training instructor Sonia Clamp completed a 400- mile run for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity on 7 October. The event – equivalent to 20 marathons in 11 days – started at the National Memorial Arboretum, Stafford and finished at Ternhill, Shropshire. At time of printing, Clamp had raised more than £2,000 of her £11,000 target.
