Six of Navca’s members have become living wage employers, following the umbrella body's pledge to encourage all of its 350 members to pay their staff a living wage.

The living wage initiative was launched by the charity London Citizens in 2001. It campaigns for UK employers to pay staff enough to provide for themselves and their families. In September 2012 Navca pledged to join the initiative and to encourage its members to also join.

There are 132 employers listed on the living wage website.

The list currently includes Navca and six of its members -

  • Barking & Dagenham Council for Voluntary Service
  • Involve Yorkshire & Humber
  • LVSC (London)
  • Merton Voluntary Service Council
  • Nottingham CVS
  • Voluntary Action Islington

Joe Irvin, chief executive of Navca, said: “I’m really proud to see Navca members taking such a prominent role in the living wage campaign. As well as encouraging our members and other charities to support a living wage and become accredited employers, we believe local commissioners need to make this possible for many more by recognising the importance of paying the living wage and reflect this in the commissioning decisions they make.”

A number of charities are living wage-accredited employers, including Cafod, NCVO, Save the Children, Unicef, ActionAid and the Young Foundation.
