Nothing says Britain quite like a good cup of tea – something the not-for-profit commercial wing of the British armed forces, the NAAFI, (Navy, Army & Air Force Institutes) has chosen to capitalise on in a bid to raise money for Help for Heroes.
NAAFI Break tea has been served to soldiers “providing a taste of home” since 1921. But following an announcement made today, the NAAFI is to sell its special "strong british blend" of tea on the high street for the first time in the NAAFI’s 90 year history.
The new fundraising venture will see the brand sold in 80 SPAR stores across the country with 50p from every box sold donated to the Help for Heroes charity, providing funds to help wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. This will be followed later in the year by a range of memorabilia, including a retro styled mug and tea caddies, both of which will mark the 90th anniversary of NAAFI.
“In the context of forces life, the NAAFI Break is much more than just a tea break – it’s a chance for our servicemen and women to snatch some quality time during their working day, to wind down over a cup of tea and a snack, catch up with friends and think of home,” says Reg Curtis, NAAFI chief executive officer.
“With 50p from the sale of each NAAFI Break box of tea going to Help for Heroes, forces families and the general public will be able to enjoy our tea knowing that their purchase is going directly towards helping our troops on operations.”
