Microsoft has launched the next stage of its Upgrade Your World intitiative with a social media competition that will see the ten charities with the most votes get a donation of $50,000 (around £32,800).
People can vote for who they want to win using the search tag #upgradeyourworlduk and #vote on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by 23 September.
As well as the cash donation, winning charities will receive technology and support from Microsoft.
The competition started in the United States and is running in ten countries. Non-profits in France, Germany, Japan, Kenya, India, Australia and Mexico can be voted for using different hashtags (a full list from Microsoft is available here).
To qualify for the Upgrade Your World prize organisations must have a registered Twitter account, giving it an @nonprofitname Twitter handle. They must also have recognised charity status, for example be registered with Charity Commission.
Organisations that have already been chosen by Microsoft for support are also ineligible. They are: Care, Code.org, Keep a Child Alive, Malala Fund, Pencils of Promise, Save the Children, Special Olympics, the Global Poverty Project, the Nature Conservancy.
Other ineligible organisations include, religious organisations, schools and universities, trade associations and hospitals that are involved in Microsoft Health Programmes.
Microsoft launched the Upgrade Your World initiative in the summer to coincide with the launch of its latest operating system Windows 10. At the time it announced partnerships with the nine global non-profit organisations listed above. The Beagle Freedom project later became the tenth global partner after a public vote.
