Ellie Gray has resigned as director of fundraising at Mencap after four years in the post.
Gray led fundraising at Mencap during a time of some change at the charity, which is heavily dependent on government contracts for income. Last year a restructure, blamed on public sector cuts, saw changes to the communications, policy and campaigns and fundraising departments, and Gray led the review of the fundraising department, which experienced some redundancies.
The departure of Gray, which civilsociety.co.uk understands occurred within the last fortnight, comes just two months after director of personal support Jan Tregelles took over as chief executive of Mencap.
During her tenure at Mencap, Gray was critical to the charity winning a £7m charity of the year partnership with Cooperative in 2011. A spokeswoman for Mencap did not specify whether Gray was moving on to another charity, but said she is currently abroad. An internal interim is covering her role, and the charity is assessing its requirements before recruiting a replacement, the spokeswoman said.
In a statement about Gray, Mencap said: "Ellie transformed fundraising at Royal Mencap Society and leaves a strong and committed team behind."
For the last year on record, ending March 2012, Mencap's voluntary income stood at £19.1m. Fundraising accounted for £12.8m, which was above target and 59 per cent above the previous year's performance, on the strength of the contribution from the Cooperative partnership.
