Marie Curie appoints digital advisory board

Marie Curie has appointed a digital advisory board to help it build on the successes of its digital transformation programme.

The charity is one of the first in the sector to appoint an external board to advise it on digital matters and has also created an internal ‘digital steering wheel’ with eight champions from across the charity who will meet once a month.

After launching a digital transformation programme two years ago, Marie Curie has seen its online donations increase by 35 per cent. And by switching to an automated email system it has also increased income from email by 126 per cent.

The board will meet quarterly and be chaired by the charity’s chief executive, Jane Collins and includes invited industry leaders, Michael Boniface, managing director of Reloaded Games, and digital consultants Stephen Hewett and Rudy Tambala.

Claire Hazle, head of digital at Marie Curie, said: “As we enter a new chapter, we want to fully embed digital into our everyday work whilst retaining momentum and growth.

Collins added that the digital transformation programme had “played a key part” in its work recently and that: “Digital is now something that’s relevant to everyone working at Marie Curie, and our digital culture will continue to mature over the coming months and years.”

On joining the board, Hewett said he was “delighted” to have been asked, and added: “We’re there not only to advise, but also to help steer how to leverage the numerous technology opportunities that can support Marie Curie in putting the end user even more at the heart of what they already do so well.”
