Macmillan Cancer Support has announced that its partnership with Greene King has raised £2m, double its initial target and that the partnership has been renewed for a further three years.

Macmillan Cancer Support has announced that its partnership with Greene King has raised £2m, double its initial target and that the partnership has been renewed for a further three years.

Pub retailer and brewer Greene King has now raised £2m for its first ever charity partner, since the partnership was launched with Macmillan in May 2012. In a joint statement, both Greene King and Macmillan have now confirmed that the partnership has been extended for a further three years.

This year, Greene King pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK helped raise over £200,000 for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Greene King employees have also raised money through activities including the London Marathon and the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

The ongoing partnership between the charity and the pub retailer will continue to raise money to fund Macmillan nurses and local support programmes across the UK.

Lynda Thomas, chief executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “This £2m will have a huge impact in helping us ensure that cancer patients and their loved ones don’t have to face cancer alone.

“I would like to say thank you to everyone who has worked to make this incredible achievement possible, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together over the next three years.”

Rooney Anand, chief executive of Greene King, said: “I am so proud of all our team members and incredibly grateful for our guests’ support, all working together to help raise £2m for Macmillan. It is a phenomenal achievement; especially as we have raised double the amount we originally set ourselves.

“I am thrilled that we are able to stay working with Macmillan to continue to help fund it important work across the country.”
