London Marathon organisers have invited charities without a place for 2027’s running event to apply via ballot.
UK-registered charities currently without and not holding places for the 2027 marathon can now apply for one of the 500 running spots available.
Charities have until 11 December this year to apply for spaces, free of charge, after the ballot opened yesterday.
London Marathon Events (LME) will then randomly choose the 500 successful charities which will be told about the result on 19 December.
Successful charities will be each be eligible for one place ahead of the marathon which will take place on 25 April in 2027.
Sarah Ball, LME head of charities, said: “Demand for charity places is always high.
“That’s why we’re delighted to provide this opportunity for 500 more charities to be involved in the 2027 event and continue the event’s legacy of charitable fundraising.”
Ball added that LME works with about 2,000 charities and said total fundraising since the London Marathon’s 1981 inception was more than £1.4bn.
After pausing for five years, LME relaunched its annual charity ballot scheme for the 2025 marathon and has already awarded places for the 2026 event.
This year’s event raised £87.3m for charities overall to beat its prior record-breaking amount of £73.5m in 2024.
