Stonewall announces partnership to expand Northern Ireland project

31 Oct 2017 News

Stonewall has announced a partnership with a Northern Irish charity Rainbow Project to deliver a workplace equality programme in Northern Ireland and create a benchmarking tool for employers.

The Rainbow Project plans to expand a workplace programme it has been running for the past five years, with the number of employers working on the scheme expected to increase from 10 to 40 in the next year. It will employ a new member of staff at its Belfast office, who will be supported by Stonewall’s membership team in London.

The client account manager will deliver seminars, networking opportunities and help foster relations between organisations across Northern Ireland.

A key aim of the partnership is for the two charities to be able to name Northern Ireland’s top LGBT inclusive employer by 2019.

Stonewall, which currently works with more than 750 employers, already announces top LGBT inclusive employers for England, Wales and Scotland each year as part of its Workplace Equality Index.

Ruth Hunt, chief executive of Stonewall, said: “By combining our resources, expertise and reach, Stonewall and The Rainbow Project can help transform the lives of many more LGBT people in Northern Ireland.

“Employers want to get the best out of their staff and we know that people perform better when they can be themselves.

“This partnership enables us to share the expertise and skills we have developed over the past decade, and to better understand how we can support LGBT movements in places where the law is different.”#
