JustGiving is to open its platform to charities from Ireland, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.

Charities from these regions can now register on the site in preparation for an Asia-Pacific launch in September. Donors can also now give in eight different currencies: British pounds, US dollars, Euros, Hong Kong dollars, Singapore dollars, Canadian dollars, UAE dirham and Australian dollars.

Anne-Marie Huby, managing director at JustGiving, said: “We already have a solid base outside the UK and have seen an incredible global response to high-profile appeals.”

Last year 200,000 donations for UK-based charities made via JustGiving came from overseas. Some 8.5 million donations were made in the UK last year, and although the proportion from overseas is relatively small a JustGiving spokeswoman said international donations were "growing".

Charities based in Australia, Ireland, Hong Kong and the UAE that want to raise money using the platform need to register their details online, and then JustGiving will contact them requesting an “original statement” to prove that the organisation is charitable. This could be a certificate from a regulator, a document relating to the charitable status, an incorporation certificate or a charity governing document.

JustGiving is looking to expand further in 2013, and is letting organisations from other countries register their interest in joining the platform.
