Four charities have received additional funding, totalling £3.1m, from the Social Action Fund after demonstrating "particular effectiveness".
The fund, managed by Social Investment Business has awarded £24m since it was set up in 2011, with 40 social action projects have received grants ranging from £100,000 to £2m. Last summer the government committed an extra £40m to social action funding over three years.
Nick Hurd, minister for civil society, said: “These projects show what an extraordinary range of issues can be tackled by people giving their time and working together. Each project here has produced fantastic results in the communities they operate in, which is why I want to give them this additional support from our Social Action Fund so that more people benefit from their great work.”
The four organisations are:
- Tearfund for its partnership with the Cinnamon Network creating social action projects in local churches.
- County Sports Partnership Network, in partnership with YMCA, to continue to run Community Games.
- The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise, which helps unemployed people over 50 start their own businesses.
- Play England, which is hosted by the National Children’s Bureau, to strengthen its ability to recruit and support volunteers for its 20 play centres and to campaign nationally to encourage people get children outside.
The Cabinet Office was unable to tell civilsociety.co.uk how much the individual grants were for.
