Civil Society Media

Civil Society Media and Fundraising Magazine have released a report in which senior fundraisers share their strategy, management and income growth insights.

The report – Fundraising Leadership – is useful whether you are leading a large, multi-specialism team or stepping into your first senior role. It shows there are myriad approaches you can take.

Fundraising Magazine editor Stephen Cotterill explores why fundraising leadership is so challenging, given the distinct skills, personalities and resource needs different teams have.

Three in-depth interviews with charity fundraising leaders are included in the report.

Mencap’s executive director of fundraising, Mary O’Hagan, discusses the opportunities of the Great Wealth Transfer, growth in legacy income, philanthropy and individual giving. This comes after the charity launched its new five-year strategy in April this year.

Zaheer Khan, director of fund development at Human Appeal, explains how expanding into international markets can build a more resilient donor base. Khan also elaborates on the role of AI in shaping his charity’s approach, alongside challenges such as maintaining trust and coping with rising costs.

Fee Gilfeather, director of fundraising and communications at Shelterbox, describes her relationship-focused leadership approach and offers advice to those taking on a fresh senior role. In the report, Gilfeather shares three key lessons from her career.

The report also signposts further insights through Fundraising Magazine and the ELEVATE 2027 conference, where key sector figures will set out how charities can grow their audiences and boost engagement.
